Aeroe International Mask Festival is a new creation in Danish, as well as Northern European cultural life – a multicultural art event, where many forms of art are mixed in a mutual meeting point celebrating the art of masks.
The Festival focuses on the past greeting the future. Present historical as well as contemporary mask art will be displayed and performed.
During these 3 days people of all ages will get to know and become part of  this ancient art of expression, that has overwhelmed and inspired human beings throughout generations, aesthetically and ritually
The performing artists from Scandinavia and the international scene presents art on a  very high level.
The island of Aeroe has taken care of a rare, unique and wonderful masktradition for about 150 years. This tradition  is obviously similar in its form to many global traditions – new as well as old.
It is therefore natural for scientist to join us and conduct a scientist-symposium during the festival. The subject of the symposium will be Danish and Nordic mask- and mumming traditions.

The Festival will contain visual maskart in the form of mask exhibitions, maskdrama in the streets and theatres, dance/ballet/music in the form of mask dancers from amongst other nations Tibet, Bali and Mali.And the festival is presenting  gigants build for special areas on the island.

Children of the island will show hundreds of masks created in the spring of 2008.
